Les Volets Blues is a beautiful 18th century house with lots of character and original features situated in the Estuary village of Mortagne-sur-Gironde.
Close to the river beaches of the Gironde Estuary and also to the spectacular Atlantic beaches of the Cote Sauvage, the house is within easy walking distance of the village shops (2 boulangeries, pharmacie, a bank including a cashline, charcuterie, a co-operative supermarket, tabac, post office and Tourist Information Centre). The port area with it’s yacht harbour is a pleasant 10 to 15 minute walk from the house and also has , two bar/restaurants, a pizzaria, and a creperie. There are larger supermarkets and shops located in the market towns of Gemozac and Cozes which are within 12/13 kilometres of the house.
The house has many beautiful original features including large beamed ceilings, an original limestone circular staircase and fireplace. It has 2 large living rooms, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and patios to the front and the rear of the house. For colder weather the house is fully centrally heated.
While the house is not actually fitted out for full disabled use, the ground floor has reasonable access, with entrance from the rear car parking area. There is only one step down into the main ground floor area to be negotiated and thereafter everything, except the upstairs bedroom and bathroom, is on the one level.
The house is close to the beaches of the Gironde situated at the main market towns of Royan and Saint-Georges de Didonne. The artists’ village of Talmont is within 10 kilometres of the house and there are many walks taking in some of the older Roman/Gallo remains within the area. For the more sporting visitors, there are many cycling routes, there is sand yachting, windsurfing and sailing. There are also three golf courses nearby in Royan, Cognac and Saintes and, should you wish to go slightly further afield, there are more in the Bordeaux area. The estuary area of the Gironde is a wildlife haven with many nature parks and large numbers of migratory birds can be seen at different times of the year.
